About the Event
Rotterdam Photo is a platform for contemporary photography rooted in the dynamic urban context of Rotterdam. Through exhibitions, educational programmes, artist talks, and public encounters, it connects photography with public space and contemporary debate, positioning the medium as a critical and sensitive tool for engaging with social, political, and personal realities.
At its core, Rotterdam Photo views photography not merely as representation, but as a way of observing and responding to the world. Its curatorial programme embraces diverse visual languages — from socially and politically engaged practices to poetic and speculative approaches — reflecting the complexity of the present and the multiplicity of perspectives within it.
This exhibition is realised within the Dutch Talent Project Grants, developed in collaboration with the Amarte Fonds, supporting emerging photographic voices in the Netherlands. Selected artists worked closely with curator Mira Matic to create a collective exhibition centred on experimentation and new work.
Featuring Andrea Bonderup, Malek Bigum, Maryam Touzani, Sveta Kaverina, and Roger Anis, the exhibition brings together artists whose diverse practices share a commitment to photography as a space for reflection rather than mere documentation.
Under the theme “Echoes of Silence,” the exhibition moves beyond the spectacle of conflict imagery to explore how war, tension, and trauma resonate internally. Through fragmented narratives and poetic visual languages, it invites a slower, more contemplative gaze, considering conflict not only as a geopolitical event, but as an enduring psychological and collective condition.
