Biography
Originally from Cajamarca, Peru, Marystela Camacho is a self-taught photographer and visual artist. Her work combines photography and textile techniques to explore cultural and natural memories, bringing together the ephemeral and the permanent in compositions marked by narrative depth. Her background as an Environmental Engineer and her studies at the Mario Uteaga Alvarado School of Artistic Training inform her focus on sustainability and the re-signification of organic materials as an artistic medium. A finalist at the Ver Voir Festival 2024, Marystela has stood out for her ability to revitalise historical photographic archives through embroidery, painting and the incorporation of natural elements. In 2024, she presented her first solo exhibition, “Tramas Mestizas”, at the Miguel Espinach Cultural Centre, where she reanimated Cajamarca’s cultural identity through intervened images. Since 2019, her work has formed part of group exhibitions such as the 4th and 5th editions of the La Otra Luz Analogue Photography Salon. She also holds a Master’s degree in Cultural and Natural Heritage Management from UNIR (Spain), which strengthens her artistic vision by weaving together tradition, culture, innovation and sustainability.
