Biography
Christine August is a self-taught street photographer based in San Francisco, California. She began photographing in 2021 and immediately fell in love with street photography.
She is inspired by complex scenes and aims to create visually pleasing and compositionally precise photos that blend artistic expression with cultural documentation. She is particularly focused on documenting everyday life in San Francisco in a way that demonstrates the city’s uniqueness.
Project
“Aesthetic Reality” by Christine August is a street photography project rooted in the artist’s immersive documentation of everyday life and culture, primarily in San Francisco, California, with additional images from trips to Querétaro and Mexico City, Mexico. The series seeks not to alter the visible world, but to reveal the “aesthetic reality” that already exists within it.
Aesthetic Reality captures candid moments across 15 distinct neighbourhoods, from local celebrations and parades to daily scenes on busy streets. The work emphasises composition, place and the cultural rhythms of public life, showing how ordinary streets, events and interactions can embody visual and emotional depth when observed with a sensitive, patient eye.
