Biography
Eduard Ponces Roldan (Barcelona, 1980) studied photography and photojournalism at the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC). He began his professional career in Latin America, where he served as head of photography at the investigative outlet El Faro (El Salvador), while also collaborating with international media such as El País, El Mundo, CNN en Español, the Miami Herald, Clarín, Proceso, and Gatopardo, among others.
He has dedicated much of his professional life to two core subjects: migration and social violence. He has been both winner and finalist in several international awards, including the 2014 Picture of the Year International (POYi) World Understanding Award, Best Photography Book 2010 by Picture of the Year Latinoamérica (POYLatam), the REVELA International Prize, the Gabriel García Márquez Journalism Award granted by the FNPI, and El Salvador’s National Award for Journalism and Human Rights, among others.
He regularly teaches at the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC), the CFD School in Barcelona, and the Master’s in Photojournalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He is a founding member of RUIDO Photo.
