Fruma Markowitz

Biography

Fruma Markowitz’s photography focuses on historical, experimental and handcrafted processes, including cyanotype, lumen printing, textile collage and one-of-a-kind photobooks. Her work is inspired by family life, femininity, cultural history, memory and shared legacies. A resident of Connecticut since 2003, she actively participates in local artists’ organisations and has exhibited nationally at venues such as SoHo Photo Gallery, Panopticon Gallery and the Griffin Museum of Photography. Fruma has been featured in DekUnu Arts (2023), Analog Forever Magazine (2024) and Lenscratch Magazine (2024), and received Honourable Mentions in the Julia Margaret Cameron Award (2022, 2023). She has led workshops, taught photography to women in crisis and cancer survivors, and completed an artist residency at Weir Farm Nature Preserve in 2022. Fruma earned her BFA in Photography from Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, Israel, in 1984.
