Ivan Ryaskov
Kazakhstan
Biography
Ivan was born in 1988 in Kazakhstan, Central Asia. He is the grandson of dispossessed Russians whose family roots settled in the small town of Karaganda. He has been working in photography since 2013.
He describes himself as a new-age nomad – a nomad with a camera, an art nomad without a fixed home. Through his work, he seeks moments of connection with people who share a similar sense of displacement, embodying his artistic vision within each frame. His photography explores a deep love for nature, the intangible cultural heritage of Asia, and the preservation of ancestral traditions.
He is currently researching the impact of rapidly changing climate conditions in the Himalayan mountains and how these transformations are affecting local communities and their ways of life.
Project
“Fragile Balance” by Ivan Ryaskov is a photographic project that explores the nuanced interplay between human presence, cultural identity and the natural world through sensitively observed imagery often set in Central Asian contexts. Ryaskov’s work includes portraits of individuals and scenes drawn from nomadic and rural settings that resonate with tradition, trust and coexistence between people and their environment, highlighting moments where fragility and harmony coexist.
Ryaskov uses Fragile Balance to open a visual dialogue about cultural heritage, human-animal relationships and the poetic balance between presence and landscape.
