Biography
Pablo Vergara is a Chilean architect and urbanist, documentary photographer and photojournalist based in Brazil. He completed a diploma in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Projects at UNAM in Mexico and continued his training with the VII Foundation. His work has been published in El País, and he has collaborated with the newspaper Brasil de Fato-RJ. He is the winner of the International Image Festival (FINI, Mexico).
His recent trajectory reflects a strong international presence across festivals, awards and exhibitions. He was selected for the Walk of Water Photostory Contest: Identities by UNESCO and received the Alexia Award of Excellence from Syracuse University. His project Square Mile, organised by the VII Foundation, was exhibited at the Photo Vogue Festival in Milan and screened at the Sarajevo Film Festival. He has also presented work at Foto em Pauta International Festival in Brazil and participated in the group exhibition celebrating 20 Years of the Imagens do Povo Institute at CDF Montevideo in Uruguay.
Vergara has been recognised with major international distinctions, including 1st Place in the Environment Category at the International Photography Awards (IPA, USA), 3rd Place in the Conflicts Category at the Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA), and finalist positions in the World Report Award – Student Documentary Category at the Ethical Photography Festival in Italy and in the 5th Photography Contest of the Brazilian Human Rights Fund. His work has also been featured in a solo exhibition at Paraty em Foco, International Photography Festival in Brazil.
Through a practice that bridges architecture, territory and documentary storytelling, Vergara explores social, environmental and political realities with a strong visual and investigative approach.
