Ralph Nevins

Biography

With a background in software engineering, his photography represents an ongoing experiment with the world around him, capturing moments and expanding the limits of visual perception. Since 2003, he has been innovating with slit-scan cameras, refining the technique to make it more accessible and creating a range of cameras with resolutions from 60 to 240 megapixels, capturing images up to half a gigabyte in size. He has also explored medium- and large-format slit-scan cameras, as well as scanback and rotary cameras. More recently, he has moved into creating still images and collages using high-speed, high-resolution video, along with infrared photography using a full-spectrum converted Nikon D800. Through these experiments, he seeks to expand the possibilities of photography and challenge conventional perceptions of visual representation.
