Rocío Bueno Royo

Spain

Biography

Visual artist, photographer, and economist whose practice explores the contemporary construction of the image of women, as well as questions linked to heritage, memory, and what is barely perceptible, often working from the photographic archive. She uses photography as a tool for communication and dialogue, taking interest in its anachronistic and polysemic character and its capacity for projection and identification, and connects this medium with other disciplines such as drawing, collage, sculpture, painting, and poetry. Her project Renascence received honorable mentions at ArtPhoto Barcelona and PHotoESPAÑA in 2022, while Hilo received an Honorable Mention at Encontros da Imagem in Braga and First Prize at the Barakaldo Baffest Festival in 2021, as well as an honorable mention at the Luminic Festival in 2023. Her work has been exhibited in Spain, France, Chile, and Portugal, in spaces such as Matadero Madrid, the Huete Museum of Photography, the Museum of Archaeology of Braga, Les Rencontres d’Arles, ArtsLibris at ARCOmadrid, and the International Photography Festival of Valparaíso. She has self-published three photobooks, Hilo (2019), incorporated into the MoMA Library collection in New York, Renascence (2021), and Ancestras (2025).
