Shaina Gates is an artist working in experimental photography and sculpture, merging theories of geometric folding with photosensitive materials to create innovative 2D and 3D photograms on film and paper. She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (2005), an MA in Art Education (2008), and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania (2016). Her work was included in the Maine Center for Contemporary Art Biennial (2023) and the New England Triennial (2022). She has presented numerous solo and group exhibitions, including a recent show at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, titled TESTSET. In 2023, she received the $25,000 Artist Advancement Grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, culminating in a major exhibition in 2024. She shares her knowledge as a professor at the University of New Hampshire and serves as a studio adviser in the MFA programme at Maine College of Art.
