Biography
Viktoria Chocholová (2003) is an emerging Slovakian photography artist currently based between Bratislava (SK) and The Hague (NL). Chocholová's work explores themes such as family dynamics and cultural heritage, ecological and contemporary social issues, examination of different communities and subcultures or relationships between people and places. Chocholová experiments with different documentary approaches such as visual anthropology or character-driven narratives, ultimately using photography as a tool to observe, examine and understand human behaviour and its external factors. With her work, Chocholová uses photography to engender a sense of compassion and mutual understanding between the viewer and her subject, aiming to spark a dialogue between the two. Chocholová's work has been exhibited in countries such as Slovakia, Slovenia, the Netherlands or Italy and recognised by magazines such as Paradajs Photo Magazine (SK) or Il Fotografo (IT). She finished her studies at School of Applied Arts Josefa Vydru in Slovakia, Bratislava (SK) in 2022 and is currently based in the Netherlands where she studies a Photography Bachelor at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (NL).
Project
“Thread Holds a Memory” by Viktoria Chocholová is a photographic and installation-based project that reflects on the intertwining nature of memory, materiality and personal narrative. The work includes lenticular prints on wooden surfaces that suggest a tactile interplay between image and object, echoing how memories can shift, merge and re-emerge as we revisit them.
Through her practice, Chocholová examines how threads — both literal and metaphorical — can act as carriers of experience and recollection, weaving together personal histories and cultural resonances into a nuanced visual language. This project invites the viewer to contemplate how the fabric of memory is constructed and how images can act as connectors between past and present.
