La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival is the largest outdoor photography festival in Europe, stretching across 7 kilometres of gardens, streets and public spaces that turn the Austrian city of Baden into an open-air gallery. Built on three narrative strands, the human condition, the state of the planet and Austrian photography, it presents around 1,500 photographs to over 330,000 visitors each year, with free admission.
During our visit to La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival we followed both the Garden Route and the City Route, where large outdoor prints line the parks and streets of Baden. Seeing photography at this scale, out in public and free to all, made for a memorable walk across the city.
